 Poroshenko Signs Law Providing ATO Soldiers Combatant Status

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed the Law of Ukraine “On amendments to article 6 of Law of Ukraine №1547-VII “On status of war veterans, guarantees of their social protection”.

Censor.NET reports, citing the press service of the President, that the given law recognizes as combatants servicemen (reservists, enlisted men) and officials of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, the External Intelligence Service, the State Border Guard Service, rank and file personnel and senior officers of the Ministry of the Interior of Ukraine, military personnel of the Ministry of the Interior of Ukraine, the State Security Office, the State Service for Special Communication and Information Protection, other military institutions established under the laws of Ukraine that protected the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, took part in the ATO or facilitated its implementation, as well as workers of enterprises, institutions and organizations that were involved in the ATO in the order prescribed by law.

The Law also delegates the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine an authority to determine the order of granting the status of combatant to the above mentioned persons.

Earlier, military personnel of the Ministry of Defense, the State Border Service, the State Security Office, civil specialists of the Ministry of Defense didn't have the right to the status of combatant. The given law regulates granting of such status to the above mentioned officials.
