Ukraine Urged Europe to Tighten Sanctions against Russia: "The Cases of Moscow's Intervention Became Bolder"

Representative of Ukraine to the EU, Ambassador Konstiantyn Yeliseiev provided the documented evidence of Russia's supporting the pro-Russian armed groups to the European Union and the European Parliament and called for tougher sanctions against Moscow to be implemented on the summit on July 16th.

Yeliseiev said about it in Brussels on Tuesday July 15 speaking about the expectations of the EU summit planned on July 16 and the adoption of the resolution on Ukraine by the European Parliament, Censor.NET reports citing UNIAN.

According to the Ukrainian diplomat, he provided the partners of the member states and the EU institutions and members of the European Parliament with documented facts of direct support by Russia of the illegal armed terrorist groups operating in the east of Ukraine. "We attract the attention of European partners to ensure that the adoption of the preliminary conclusions of the European Council on June 27, which contained a number of specific demands to the Russian Federation, as well as on the background of successful ATO, the facts of Moscow intervention get more daring character. The modern military vehicles, which are in service with the Russian army only, moving across the border cannot be regarded as a constructive contribution to the de-escalation of the situation in Ukraine," Yeliseiev said.

In this regard, he expressed the hope that the EU decides to apply tougher sanctions against Russia during the European Council session on July 16.

"This is the moment of truth for the EU. The manifestation of solidarity with Ukraine would be consistent and logical step. The EU Member States should put international law, common democratic values and common sense above their business and energy interests," the representative of Ukraine to the EU said.

Earlier, the European Parliament had planned to hold a discussion on the situation in Ukraine and the vote on the candidacy of Jean-Claude Juncker as president of the European Commission.
