Kidnapping of Savchenko Shows Apparent Connection between Russia and the Separatists - U.S. Department of State

According to the U.S. Department of State, the detention of Ukrainian female killer pilot Nadiya Savchenko in Russia as a testimony to the alleged connections between the separatists in Eastern Ukraine and the Russian authorities.

Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland stated this at theSenate Foreign Relations Committee hearing to examine Russia anddevelopments in Ukraine, Censor.NET reports, citing ITAR-TASS and Voice of America.

She said that the fact t hat Savchenko, a Ukrainian Army helicopterpilot, had been seized by the separatists about a month ago and nowshe turned up in a Russian jail is a testimony to the allegedconnections between the separatists in Eastern Ukraine and theRussian authorities.

"It is a clear violation of international legal norms and humanrights," Nuland stated.

As it was reported earlier, the Investigative Committee ofRussian Federation said that the Ukrainian pilot, captured byLuhansk militants, came to Russia under the guise of arefugee.

Savchenko is suspected in participating in mortar attack thatkilled Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin, employees of VGTRK(All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company).

The Voronezh court left Ukrainian kidnapped pilot Nadia Savchenkoin the city jail till the end of August.
