 Russia Claims that Kidnapped Ukrainian Pilot Nadia Savchenko Detained as a Refugee

The Investigative Committee of Russian Federation said that the Ukrainian pilot, captured by Luhansk militants, came to Russia under the guise of a refugee.

This was stated by head of the department of investigate crimes related to the use of prohibited means and methods of warfare, Vladimir Markin, reports Ukrainska Pravda .

"Regarding the detention Savchenko, it turned out that she crossed the border of Russia without any documents, under the guise of a refugee," he said.

"During document checking, she was detained for an identification. Later it turned out that Savchenko is a suspect in a the murder case of Russian journalist," he said.

"It is important to note that this detention conducted in strict accordance with the Russian laws. The accusation brought against Savchenko in the presence of a lawyer and an interpreter, and the Ukrainian Embassy in the Russian Federation was immediately notified about the fact of detention. Currently she is in one of the detention centers. Investigators will find out what was the purpose of her arrived to Russia," he said.

It was established that Savchenko is
an operator-gunner of the Mi-24 of the Ukrainian Army. According to the investigators, during the conflict in the Luhansk region in June this year, Savchenko took a vacation and entered "Aidar" battalion," the statement said.

"After she had found location coordinates of a group of Russian journalists of VGTRK (
All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company) and other civilians near Luhansk, she transmitted them to militants. Thereafter, they used these coordinates for a mortar attack that killed Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin, employees of VGTRK," he specified.
