 Russia Claims that Kidnapped Ukrainian Pilot Nadia Savchenko Detained as a Refugee

The Investigative Committee of Russian Federation said that the Ukrainian pilot, captured by Luhansk militants, came to Russia under the guise of a refugee.

This was stated by head of the department of investigate crimesrelated to the use of prohibited means and methods of warfare,Vladimir Markin, reports UkrainskaPravda .

"Regarding the detention Savchenko, it turned out that she crossedthe border of Russia without any documents, under the guise of arefugee," he said.

"During document checking, she was detained for an identification.Later it turned out that Savchenko is a suspect in a the murdercase of Russian journalist," he said.

"It is important to note that this detention conducted in strictaccordance with the Russian laws. The accusation brought againstSavchenko in the presence of a lawyer and an interpreter, and theUkrainian Embassy in the Russian Federation was immediatelynotified about the fact of detention. Currently she is in one ofthe detention centers. Investigators will find out what was thepurpose of her arrived to Russia," he said.

It was established that Savchenko is
an operator-gunnerof the Mi-24of the Ukrainian Army. According tothe investigators, during theconflict in the Luhansk regionin June this year, Savchenkotook a vacation andentered "Aidar"battalion," thestatement said.

"After she had found location coordinates of a group ofRussian journalists of VGTRK (
All-Russia State Televisionand Radio Broadcasting Company) and othercivilians near Luhansk, shetransmitted them to militants. Thereafter,they used these coordinates for amortar attack thatkilled Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin,employees ofVGTRK," hespecified.
