 Poroshenko Signed a Law Criminalizing the Financing of Separatism

President Poroshenko signed the law "On Amendments to the Criminal Code of Ukraine concerning the criminalization of the financing of separatism."

Censor.NET reports this citing the press service of the head of state. According to the law, the financing of acts performed in order to change the boundaries of the territory or the Ukrainian border in violation of the procedure established by the Constitution, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term of 3 to 5 years with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or be engaged in certain activities for a term up to two years with confiscation of property.

Financing of the actions committed to forcibly change or overthrow the constitutional order or the seizure of state power, is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 5 to 7 years with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term up to two years with confiscation of property.

A person may be released from criminal responsibility for these actions, if he or she is not the leader of an organized group and if a person voluntarily reported of the incident or contributed to the cessation of illegal activity or crime prevention in any other way before he was informed of suspicion of committing a crime. The Verkhovna Rada adopted the Law number 4822 on June 19.
