A. Merkel and F. Hollande understood the decision of the Ukrainian President to terminate the ceasefire regime in the Donbas and return to it under specific conditions - bilateral ceasefire, restoration of control over the border under the OSCE monitoring and release of all hostages.
The interlocutors note that the ceasefire regime caused serious losses for Ukraine, first of all in the context of human lives. They emphasize that they understand the Ukrainian President.
The parties noted the progress achieved at the quadripartite meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine, Germany, France and Russia in Berlin, particularly on the support of ensuring peace and stability in Ukraine that can be achieved through the lasting ceasefire by all parties to the conflict, restoration of the functioning of trilateral contact group in order to agree on the conditions of the lasting ceasefire not later than July 5, as well as immediate release of all hostages.
Angela Merkel informed that she had actively discussed the Ukrainian topic in phone conversations with leaders of other states, particularly with U.S. President Barack Obama. The Federal Chancellor emphasized that it was very important to have a transatlantic unified position on Ukraine.
The President of Ukraine drew attention of the EU leaders to the donor conference aimed at raising money for the restoration of destroyed buildings and infrastructure in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
The parties agreed to hold another conversation at the beginning of the next week.
