A. Merkel and F. Hollande understood the decision of theUkrainian President to terminate the ceasefire regime in the Donbasand return to it under specific conditions - bilateral ceasefire,restoration of control over the border under the OSCE monitoringand release of all hostages.
The interlocutors note that the ceasefire regime caused seriouslosses for Ukraine, first of all in the context of human lives.They emphasize that they understand the Ukrainian President.
The parties noted the progress achieved at the quadripartitemeeting of the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine, Germany, France andRussia in Berlin, particularly on the support of ensuring peace andstability in Ukraine that can be achieved through the lastingceasefire by all parties to the conflict, restoration of thefunctioning of trilateral contact group in order to agree on theconditions of the lasting ceasefire not later than July 5, as wellas immediate release of all hostages.
Angela Merkel informed that she had actively discussed theUkrainian topic in phone conversations with leaders of otherstates, particularly with U.S. President Barack Obama. The FederalChancellor emphasized that it was very important to have atransatlantic unified position on Ukraine.
The President of Ukraine drew attention of the EU leaders to thedonor conference aimed at raising money for the restoration ofdestroyed buildings and infrastructure in Donetsk and Luhanskregions.
The parties agreed to hold another conversation at the beginningof the next week.
