This was stated by spokesman of the NSDC Andrii Lysenko, commenting on a journalist's remark that if the ATO forces free four towns a day, the operation will extend for several years, Censor.NET reports citing LigaBusinessInform.
Lysenko noted that there are not enough terrorists in the Donbas for every town. "Therefore we free the places where there are militant headquarters or groups that are resisting and setting up ambushes. These are the places we liberate. And all of them are on the way to strategic targets. Currently the operation's goal is to encircle the militants and cut off their supplies," he said.
According to the NSDC spokesman, the anti-terrorist operation is very successful. "The operation is very active. The number of locations freed from the militants every day displays the fact that the operation is approaching its logical conclusion which will certainly be our victory," he stated.
Lysenko also noted that the main goal of the Ukrainian servicemen is not to eliminate the militants but give them an opportunity to lay down their arms. "We are ready to go back to peace time, provided the terrorists lay down their weapons, the establishment of control over the Ukrainian-Russian border and the introduction of the monitoring mission, including the participation of the OSCE representatives," he said.
