The United States believe that constitutional reform and early local elections in Donetsk and Luhansk, proposed on the eve of a meeting of the NSDC by Petro Poroshenko, will promote unity of Ukraine.

U.S. State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said on Tuesday, June 17, during a briefing in Washington, Censor.NET reports, citing "Ukrinform".

"We would welcome President Poroshenko's statements yesterday noting he will continue to advance constitutional reform and address calls for early local elections in Donetsk and Luhansk to promote unity," Psaki said.

However, she expressed concern about the enewed Russian troop movements close to the Ukrainian border, pointing to new attempts by Moscow for another "buildup of troops on the border."

The spokesperson emphasized that Washington "watching closely and seeing what they do over the course of the coming days".
