 Parliament Votes for Unilateral Demarcation of the Border with Russia

According to the decree, it is proposed to adopt immediately the documents necessary for carrying out a unilateral demarcation of the land section of the border with the Russian Federation which will be equipped the same way as the external borders of the European Union.

Verkhovna Rada supported the decree on strengthening the protection of the state border (registration # 4048), Censor.NET reports with reference to UNIAN.

The decision was approved by 261 votes. The Communist Party and the Party of Regions did not vote on the decree.

The decree recommended the State Border Service of Ukraine to expand its staff for a more comprehensive coverage of the state border with the Russian Federation in a month's time. The document also recommends the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to determine the number of checkpoints across the state border with Russia in a period of one month.

According to the decree, it is proposed to immediately adopt the documents necessary for carrying out unilateral demarcation of the land section of the border with the Russian Federation which will be equipped the same way as external borders of the European Union.

It also provides for an immediate decision to suspend the operation of checkpoints across the state border and strengthen control over the state border with the Republic of Moldova in the areas neighboring the unrecognized Transnistria.

The decree provides for funding to organize the land section of the state border with the Russian Federation, the expansion of the State of the State Border Service of Ukraine, and for the implementation of other aforementioned activities.
