Verkhovna Rada supported the decree on strengthening theprotection of the state border (registration # 4048), Censor.NETreports with reference to UNIAN.
The decision wasapproved by 261 votes. The Communist Party and the Party of Regionsdid not vote on the decree.
The decreerecommended the State Border Service of Ukraine to expand its stafffor a more comprehensive coverage of the state border with theRussian Federation in a month's time. The document also recommendsthe Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to determine the number ofcheckpoints across the state border with Russia in a period of onemonth.
According to thedecree, it is proposed to immediately adopt the documents necessaryfor carrying out unilateral demarcation of the land section of theborder with the Russian Federation which will be equipped the sameway as external borders of the European Union.
It also providesfor an immediate decision to suspend the operation of checkpointsacross the state border and strengthen control over the stateborder with the Republic of Moldova in the areas neighboring theunrecognized Transnistria.
The decreeprovides for funding to organize the land section of the stateborder with the Russian Federation, the expansion of the State ofthe State Border Service of Ukraine, and for the implementation ofother aforementioned activities.
