Lavrov: "We Are Not Talking about Peacekeeping Forces. The Militias Are Ready for a Ceasefire"

Russia does not raise the issue of peacekeeping forces in Ukraine yet.

This was stated by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Censor.NET reports, citing ZN.UA.

"We are not talking about peacekeeping forces since we believe that the problem has not reached this point," he said.

"There is still hope that the statement of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko to stop the violence will be carried out and negotiations will begin," the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"There is still trust and one can use it now. All in the hands of the Ukrainian side," Lavrov mentioned.

"We know that the militias in the South-East are ready for a ceasefire, but the first step, by all the rules, must be taken by Kyiv authorities after Poroshenko was inaugurated," he declared.

Earlier, it was reported that the head of the state does not exclude the possibility of the round table in Donetsk with various parties of the conflict who support the peace plan of the President of Ukraine.

Donetsk Mayor Oleksandr Lukianchenko believes that it is necessary to stop the war in the east of Ukraine with the mediation of Russia and international organizations. He stated this during the press conference on June 11, appealing to the President and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
