Latest Gas Talks Between Ukraine and Russia Ended in Failure

Russia awaits settlement of Naftogaz’s debt for gas, otherwise threatening to introduce advance payments on June 16.

This was stated by Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak following another round of trilateral gas negotiations, Censor.NET reports, citing Interfax.

He stated that the Russian side is ready to guarantee Ukraine a discount of $100 per thousand cubic meters for a year.

Taking into account the proposed discount, the price for Ukraine will be $384.86 per thousand cubic meters.

At the same time, Minister of Energy and Coal Yurii Prodan stated that the gas dispute settlement mechanism proposed by Russia is unacceptable for Kyiv.

Therefore, Ukraine sees only one possible solution of gas dispute - in Stockholm Chamber of Commerce Arbitration.

As reported previously, Prime Minister Yatsenyuk stated that in case of failure of gas negotiations, Ukraine and Russia will meet in SCC Arbitration.
