This was stated by Prime Minister Yatsenyuk at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday, Ukrainska Pravda reports.
"The Russians have made us an offer on reducing gas prices by $100, through the so-called "discount". I just want to state for the record that we know these Russian traps: a discount is established by the decision of the government of the Russian Federation and is dismissed by the decision of the government of the Russian Federation," he said.
"Therefore, our proposal has been and remains the same: we need amendments to the contract," the Prime Minister said.
"If gas is a political weapon, then it is clear that the political weapon is in the hands of the Russian government. And if gas is - as it is all over the world - a commodity, than we trade on the basis of a contract and not on the basis of Russia's liking or disliking of the Ukrainian government," said Yatsenyuk.
