The newly elected president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin shook hands and agreed on ways to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.

This is reported by Reuters citing the press service of the President of France, Francois Hollande.

According to the report, before lunch Hollande and German Chancellor initiated conversation of Russian and Ukrainian presidents. Poroshenko and Putin had a 15-minute meeting.

Hollande's office claims that "the men shook hands and agreed to hold talks in the coming days regarding ceasefire between the security forces and pro-Russian Ukrainian separatists in Eastern Ukraine."

In addition, Putin and Poroshenko discussed a solution to the conflict, including the fact that Russia recognizes the legitimate election of Poroshenko, as well as economic relations.

"It was a regular, serious exchange between leaders," said in the press office of Hollande.

The office added that the meeting had been prepared for several days, but kept secret until it was held.
