 Parliament Agreed Kyiv Election Date

Parliamentary majority and the opposition agreed on the date of elections of the mayor of Kyiv and the City Council. Local elections in the capital will take place on 2 June. Thus, the Party of Regions rejected the idea of postponement of elections for the second half of summer. However, the campaign will have to wait if the next plenary week Parliament is not unlocked.

Yesterday, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on State Building and Local Self-Government supported the draft resolution # 1030 for the election of city council and Kyiv city chairman (mayor). "According to this document, the elections will be held on Sunday, 2 June," told Kommersant committee member Volodymyr Bondarenko who was elected to the Verkhovna Rada in Kyiv constituency # 219.

Decree # 1030 was supported by the Committee unanimously, including "for" head of the committee voted David Zhvania and his deputy Oleg Paraschiv (both - the Party of Regions), told Kommersant a source in PR.
