Accordingto Kommersant, thus only the prices for the cheapest products willbe regulated.
Under the draft decree developed by the Ministryof Economic Development and Trade (MEDT) on amendment of the listof products for which prices are subject to state regulation, thechanges are proposed to current regulations of the Cabinet ofMinisters N1548 of December 25, 1996 and N1222 from 17 October2007.
Thus, officials offer to exclude the state priceregulation for beef, boneless pork, chicken fillet, meat of anyother bird, premium sausages, top grade and selected eggs, andsunflower oil in packaging than PET.
In addition, the MEDT plans to tighten controlof the dairy industry. If today only fat cottage cheese to 9%, and20% sour cream and butter to 72.5% falls under state regulation, the following changes to the current regulations will allow thegovernment to regulate prices for the whole range of theseproducts.
The Ministry noted that the changes are aimed atliberalizing trade in Ukraine. "The Cabinet of Ministers instructedto limit price controls on socially important products. For moreexpensive products it is offered to drop the price control," theMinistry noted. It is reported that the document had already beenagreed in the relevant ministries and departments, and may soon beconsidered by the government.
It shall be noted that the representatives ofthe companies whose products may be removed from the list ofobjects of state price regulation favor the initiative. "Removingartificial barriers will make manufacturers price policy moreflexible," said the director of the General Affairs Agromars (thesecond-largest chicken meat producer in Ukraine), OleksiiMarchenko.
