"Our progress as aunited nation is impossible without political reconciliation.Elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has shown that all ofthe political forces in Ukraine advocate reform and modernizationof the country, the achievement of high standards of living," saidthe President. According to him, this creates the conditions for apolitical consensus, and offers the prospect of a quick andsuccessful reforms in Ukraine.
"The only point is, whether at the critical moment our politicianswill be able to step over their own ambitions for the sake of ourcommon cause - to build a rich, strong Ukraine," said thePresident. He expressed confidence that the Ukrainian politiciansare united by democratic values, freedom of speech, thought, choice. "At the same time, note that the society expects notpromises and slogans, not beating a loud but empty drums frompoliticians - Ukraine and its people need practical steps toimprove the law, overcome corruption, punishment of legalarbitrariness," he said.
He stressed thatthere is much talk about democracy, the modern state, but withoutthe rule of law and ensuring performance discipline, without strictadherence to procedures, contemporary staff - this dream isunattainable.
We are coming to the understanding of purposeful and consolidatedsolutions in the Constitution, and I am sure that such decisionswill have profound significance for the whole of society. Andbecause the constitutional reform is coming up from a narrow circleof politicians to a common project of the Ukrainian community - inthis I see the value of the Constitutional Assembly. I appeal toeveryone - postpone your political disputes, do not look forconflicts, and focus your efforts on the search for a common visionof the prospects for Ukraine - and this is the reform and renewalof Ukraine," he said.
