In an interview to Glavkom, head of the Independent Trade Union of Sverdlovsk Kostiantyn Ilchenko who took part in blocking the office of the mine director stated that starting from the evening of January 10 "suspicious athletic built people started arriving at the mine. Altogether around forty people came. They immediately blocked all the entrances and exits to the mine, all the floors. At ten p.m. they made their first attempt to capture the office and drive us out by force. They broke into the office and started, well, let's call it use force. The clashes ended at one o'clock. We've heard a lot of threats. We asked for their names, but we were told that this is none of our business. According to our information, they came from Donetsk. And it was evident that even the police is afraid of these DTEK guys. The police was there, but they did nothing," said Ilchenko.
According to him, in the morning, it became clear that this could end in a tragedy. "The representative of the police Public Relations department contacted us. We told him that we are willing to follow through. But when we realized that irreparable things can happen we contacted the governor. And the governor asked me to take the people down. At seven a.m. we went to negotiations with him," said Ilchenko.
