 Yanukovych Appointed New Head of Security Service of Ukraine

President Viktor Yanukovych has appointed Oleksandr Yakimenko head of the Security Service of Ukraine.

The corresponding decree was published on theofficial website of the President, reportsCensor.NET.

By another decree, the president dismissed IhorKalinin fromhis post andappointed him as his advisor.

Yakimenko was the first deputy head of theSSU.


Yakimenko Oleksandr was born in 1964. He graduated from YeiskAviation School. After graduation he served in Mongolia(Choibalsan), then in the Crimea (Gvardiysk). In 1997 he graduatedfrom the Gagarin Air Force Academy. According to Yakimenko, he wasa fighter pilot and flew Su-37s. He left the army in 1998. Until 5August 2011 he. was Director of Sevastopol SSU.

On August 5, 2011 Yakimenko was appointed head of the SecurityService of Donetsk oblast. Then took over the post of deputy headof the Security Service of Ukraine and the Chief of theAnti-Corruption department. The corresponding decree was publishedon the official site of the President on July 5, 2012. Dismissal ofhis predecessor Rokitskyy was explained by the fact that he was amember of the team of ex head of SSU Valerii Khoroshkovskyy.According to sources, recently Yakimenko has been closelyassociated with Oleksandr Yanukovych.
