Yaroslavskyy Sold Metalist Football Club Due to Pressure from Kharkiv Mayor Kernes

Oleksandr Yaroslavskyy resigned from the post of the president of FC Metalist.

According to Censor.NET, a statement on to the official site of FC Metalist says:

"Dear fans, dear friends,

Today, I address you to report changes in the management of FC Metalist. On 24 December 2012 I resign as the president of the club and pass on its financing obligations to another investor.

Seven years ago, when I started with Metallist it had ruins instead of the stadium, and swamp and slums instead of a training base. The team dropped from the top division to the first league, and for more than 20 years has not been to the European Cup games.

We started with 173-th place in the UEFA ranking and now we are always among the top 30 clubs in Europe. Over the past six seasons, our team won Ukrainian championship bronze medals 6 times. Since 2007 the Metallist has been taking part in European competitions UEFA Cup first and then Europa League: victories over Bayern, Sochaux, Austria, Sporting, Sampdoria, Debrecen, Besiktas, Galatasaray, Olympiakos. This season - "goal of the century" performed by Tyson placed him in the symbolic UEFA dream team.

In addition, the club now has a base which, according to football experts, is comparable to the infrastructure of Barcelona and Bavaria. And Kharkiv no longer needs to give its young football talents to other clubs - thousands of children are able to play in the academy of Metalist. At home games the team has full stadium support. And thanks to the Euro 2012 Kharkiv fans were able to see the game of the strongest teams in Europe and the brightest football stars such as Ronaldo.

In seven years I have invested more than $ 570 million in the development of FC Metallist and preparation of Kharkiv for Euro 2012, investing not only money but also a part of my heart and soul. But there is only one (which is also the main) reason why I have to leave the club: the city authorities' incomprehensible claims to me as an investor and as a result, an unprecedented psychological pressure exerted on the team and staff. This unhealthy atmosphere threatens all that is created by hard work of many people.

Therefore, leaving, I'm not abandoning Metallist but I am acting in its interests. The change in the investor eliminates the personal factor while preserving the source of funding of the club.

I thank all those who care for Metallist for their cooperation and support. Leaving the club, I do not cease to be its devoted fan and a patriot of Kharkiv.
