U.S. State Department Says American Law Firm’s Report on Tymoshenko Case is Shallow

Press Secretary of the U.S. State Department Victoria Nuland expressed concern over the report of the American firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom attorneys who have not found any political motives in the trial of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

She stated this during a briefing on Thursday, reports Ukrinform.

"We are concerned that lawyers of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, obviously, were not planning to find political motivation, if we consider that they limited their investigation to paper court records, and did not pay attention to the broader political context in which the trial was held. The report also does not take into account the selective nature of charges against Tymoshenko and former members of her government," she said.

She also noted that the position of the U.S. administration regarding selective prosecution in Ukraine remains unchanged.

According to Nuland, the study of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom "is incomplete and does not show an accurate picture."
