Batkivschyna press service issued the following press release:
In connection with the publication of the Ministry of Justice of the report of international law firm "Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP" we would first of all would like to remind you that this firm was hired by the government in April this year to assess the court actions of the gas case against Yulia Tymoshenko.
This firm immediately caused a scandal because it was repeatedly stated that the contract value is only 12 thousand dollars with no any additional costs reimbursed. However, only one flight of Skadden's team of lawyers from Washington to Kyiv - and there were about a dozen of them - costs roughly 15 thousand dollars. Thus, only the cost of the flights is ten times higher than the government's declared contract. Skadden lawyers repeatedly refused to answer the questions of who paid the difference and therefore who is the actual customer of the work.
Secondly, what we want to remind you is that these American lawyers have repeatedly said that this team has not experts in the Ukrainian law. So what criteria was used for assessment of the Ukrainian law, if no experts were involved is still not clear.
But even these completely biased and corrupt hired lawyers actually had to admit in their report absolutely obvious things that the press service of the Ministry of Justice concealed:
1. The trial of Yulia Tymoshenko was not fair and did not meet basic international standards.
2. Yulia Tymoshenko was detained and held in detention violating the law and basic international standards.
3. Yulia Tymoshenko has been deprived of basic opportunities to realize her right to protection.
However, the lawyers of Skadden failed to provide an answer to the following logical question: why did these violations which they recorded take place? Why the appellate and cassation courts found Kyreiev's conduct almost perfect?
Obviously, performing the will of the unknown benefactor, they found it better to turn a blind eye to these simple questions and say that they do not see politics here.
A few words about the international standards. By American standards which the Ministry of Justice happily refers to, Viktor Yanukovych would never have become President of Ukraine. By American standards the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine would never have been elected in such a composition in which it is now.
At that, a simple question remains. Why did a report dated October suddenly surfaced in public on the day of planed voting for resolution on Ukraine in the European Parliament?
Unlike American lawyers from Skadden the answers to these questions are quite clear to Ukrainian citizens.
