Batkivschynapress service issued the following press release:
In connection with the publication of theMinistry of Justice of the report of international law firm"Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP" we would first ofall would like to remind you that this firm was hired by thegovernment in April this year to assess the court actions of thegas case against Yulia Tymoshenko.
This firm immediately caused a scandal becauseit was repeatedly stated that the contract value is only 12thousand dollars with no any additional costs reimbursed. However, only one flight of Skadden's team of lawyers from Washington toKyiv - and there were about a dozen of them - costs roughly 15thousand dollars. Thus, only the cost of the flights is ten timeshigher than the government's declared contract. Skadden lawyersrepeatedly refused to answer the questions of who paid thedifference and therefore who is the actual customer of thework.
Secondly, what we want to remind you is thatthese American lawyers have repeatedly said that this team has notexperts in the Ukrainian law. So what criteria was used forassessment of the Ukrainian law, if no experts were involved isstill not clear.
But even these completely biased and corrupthired lawyers actually had to admit in their report absolutelyobvious things that the press service of the Ministry of Justiceconcealed:
1. The trial of Yulia Tymoshenko was not fairand did not meet basic international standards.
2. Yulia Tymoshenko was detained and held indetention violating the law and basic internationalstandards.
3. Yulia Tymoshenko has been deprived of basicopportunities to realize her right to protection.
However, the lawyers of Skadden failed toprovide an answer to the following logical question: why did theseviolations which they recorded take place? Why the appellate andcassation courts found Kyreiev's conduct almostperfect?
Obviously, performing the will of the unknownbenefactor, they found it better to turn a blind eye to thesesimple questions and say that they do not see politicshere.
A few words about the international standards.By American standards which the Ministry of Justice happily refersto, Viktor Yanukovych would never have become President of Ukraine.By American standards the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine would neverhave been elected in such a composition in which it isnow.
At that, a simple question remains. Why did areport dated October suddenly surfaced in public on the day ofplaned voting for resolution on Ukraine in the EuropeanParliament?
Unlike American lawyers from Skadden the answersto these questions are quite clear to Ukrainiancitizens.
