 Ukraine Commemorates Holodomor Victims

Every year on the fourth Saturday in November Ukraine holds a Holodomor Remembrance Day. The tradition of the day was introduced by a special decree of President Leonid Kuchma in 1998.

Glavkom reports that on the Day of the Remembrance of Holodomor Victims an annual Light a Candle campaign is held. At 4:00 p.m. the memory of those killed in the genocide of the Ukrainian people is honored by a moment of silence candle are set in the window sills.

According to the scientific and demographic examination, the total number of human losses only in the Holodomor of 1932-1933 was 3.94 million people. Loss of the unborn, according to the investigation of the Security Service of Ukraine constituted about 6 million people. Famine mostly destroyed the Ukrainian villages which were the backbone of Ukrainian family. Tragic for the Ukraine were also the consequences of 1921-1923 and 1946-1947 Holodomors.

По данным научно-демографической экспертизы, общее количество человеческих потерь только от Голодомора 1932-1933 годов составляет 3,94 млн человек. Потери нерожденных, по данным следствия СБУ, составляют около 6 млн человек. Голодомор преимущественно разрушил украинское село, которое является основной украинской семьи. Трагическими для Украины являются также последствия Голодоморов 1921-1923 и 1946-1947 годов.
