Medvedev Lulls Azarov to Join Customs Union

Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitriy Medvedev proposed Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov to discuss the issue of Ukraine's membership in the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan.

Medvedev stated this before the start of negotiations with Azarov, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

"For me it is very important to understand the direction in which the eyes are fixed now, not only Ukrainian society, the Ukrainian establishment, the leadership of Ukraine, because at the beginning of the Customs Union we discussed the topic with Ukraine of its joining the Customs Union. And I think that this topic is also worthy of our conversation with you," said Medvedev.

At that he reminded that one of the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Ministers said that Ukraine's entry into the CU is against the law.

"I would be interested in understanding your position on this issue - whether it is the opinion of other partners in the government. If joining the CU is illegal then there is nothing to talk about and if there are still some opportunities I suggest devoting some attention to this complex issue," said Medvedev.
