Former South Customs head Oleksandr Vdovychenko whose car and office contained 870,000 dollars was made a witness in the criminal case regarding his subordinates.

Segodnya reports that Odessa oblast prosecutor Yelena Abramova stated: "The case is being investigated, and Oleksander Vdovychenko received witness status," explained the law enforcement official.

On October 2 law enforcement officers seized more than 870 thousand dollars at the offices of South Customs. The search was conducted by law enforcement officers in the pre-trial investigation of the criminal case against the head of one of the Southern Customs posts and the inspector of the post which are suspected of extortion and bribery for customs clearance of 11 containers of cargo.

On the same day, October 2, Oleksander Vdovychenko was fired from the post of Chief of South Customs by an order of the Chairman of the State Customs Service.
