Arms Scandal: Americans Threaten Lawsuit Against Ukroboronprom. The Damage will be Paid by Regular Ukrainians

Ukroboromprom (Ukrainian Defense Industry) group of companies may face a lawsuit for non-payment of commission fees to an American intermediary in fullfilling weapons supply contracts.

ZN.UA has acquired a letter dated September 7, 2012, addressed to the head of Ukroboronprom Serhiy Hromov by representative of the intermediary Peter Shnur. The letter contains a claim for payment of the commission (over 120 million USD that are already transferred to somebody's Swiss bank account but have not reached the official intermediary).

In a letter to Hromov the intermediary gives 10 business days to transfer the money and warns that if that does not happen the Ukrainian party will answer in court.

Previously a US court ruled to pay 61,750,000 USD to Texas businessman Howard Lowrie. The money was not paid to him by Ukrainian-American brokers who decided not to pay his commission in Iraq weapons supply deal.

Presently another intermediary has claimed its demands to Ukrspetsexport (state company selling arms and weapons). If the commission is not paid, the party may file a suit to American and Swiss courts. As a result the damages will be paid by the government of Ukraine, i.e. Ukrainian taxpayers.
