A statement issued by the press service of the Resolution author senator Richard Durbin notes: "The present Resolution was passed unanimously in an open Senate voting. It is a standard procedure in considering the matters that have a coordinated, unambiguous point of view of the majority. All rules and regulations were observed in this case and nobody changed them for this."
"Certainly, the passing of the Resolution is not to the liking of the Ukrainian authorities but it displays the fact that all members of the Senate condemn political imprisonment of Yulia Tymoshenko," noted Durbin.
"Moreover, this Resolution was being worked on for several months. All Senate offices were notified that the Senate is planning to consider this matter so they could propose their remarks and objections. The Resolution was preliminarily discussed in an open session of the Senate committee on foreign affairs and was sustained by it. The statements regarding the alleged procedure violations are groundless," stressed the seantor.
According to Durbin "If there are any doubtful circumstances here, they concern the reasons for months of Tymoshenko's imprisonment."
