Media: Yanukovych to Be Replaced and Made the Fall Guy

A split in the Party of Regions cannot be hidden anymore. Old school Donetsk oligarchs and businessmen have promptly reserved places in the election list that guarantee seats in the parliament for them and their families while RosUkrEnergo and Interpipe groups have not. They stake on Klitschko in hopes of him taking on more step in presidential ratings – from 2nd to 1st (according to recent polls).

In his article on Uainfo, Mykhaylo Danchuk writes:

18 September. Zhuravskyy's controversial defamation bill that proposes imprisonment for journalists. Passed by 224 deputies controlled by Yanukovych at the wave of Chechetov's hand (the director of voting), the bill makes another blow to the image of Yanukovych as well as the Party of Regions.

21 September. Sotsys poll shows that presidential rating of Klitschko hiked to 2nd place passing Yulia Tymoshenko, Petro Symonenko, Arseniy Yatsenyuk… The difference between the 1st and 2nd place was double.

23 September. US Senate passed the Resolution calling for the release of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and visa sanctions against persons responsible for her imprisonment. The final edit of the Resolution is published on the Senate's official website. Co-sponsors of the Resolution - James Inhoff (R) and Dick Durbin (D).

24 September. Valeriy Khoroshkovskyy stated Ukraine's European choice on the Freedom of Speech program on Pinchuk's TV channel. Then he left for the US. Bringing news of another achievement by Vitaliy Klitchko for whom the studio was turned into a boxing ring.

26 September. KMIS published its poll - the Party of Regions - 22%, Klitschko's Strike - 14%, United opposition - 13%, Freedom and Korolevska's Ukraine Ahead! Do not pass the 5% - they get 4% and 3% accordingly. The information about Klitschko's 2nd place is distributed and advertised in Ukrainian as well foreign media.

26 September. US Ambassador John Tefft announces that the US Senate Resolution was voted unanimously.

26 September. Andriy Shevchenko left Natalia Korolevska and flies to London. Family business.

26 September. Viktor Yanukovych took a picture with President Barrack Obama in the US. Supposedly he had a short conversation on nuclear topics. Without an interpreter. Not many people wanted to talk to Yanukovych. The Diaspora organized a protest against political persecution.

27 September. Polemika cites deputy Taras Chornovil (formerly a loyal and close ally of Yanukovych): "They want to change Yanukovych for somebody who is easier to control. That is why they are running his image. Including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' statement on the US Senate Bill." He also noted that this was not the first Resolution. "First draft was presented about half a year ago. Anyone tied to diplomacy knows that this is a common practice for the US - first they pass a tougher resolution and then if there is no reaction they pass a more realistic one. As we know there was no reaction to the first one." According to Chornovil, a group of politicians that includes head of the Presidential Administration Serhiy Levochkin staked on supporting Klitschko's Strike. "This group is betting on Klitschko. Polls are being changed to his favor, certain favors are given out. I can even see it in my 212 district where the regime is definitely not betting on its Regions' candidate. Yanukovych is starting to show his temper while Klitschko will be obedient", thinks Chornovil.

27 September. Vitaliy Portnikov who can be considered well-informed writes: "…for now only representatives of RosUkrEnergo go to Belgian capital and routinely visit Western embassies in Ukraine. It is happening under a cover story of looking for funds but in reality it is an attempt to ensure the safety of group members in case of regime's downfall or limitations on its movements - which, in light of the US Senate Resolution, does not seem unreal anymore. The group is losing to Old School Donetsk now - the latter regained their leading positions in Yanukovych's close circle and in the party. But unlike RosUkrEnergo representatives, the Donetsk "elite" may not fully realize the consequences of lack of Western loans or visa limitations. That is why, alongside getting loans, the Firtash clan representatives explain to their European partners that they have nothing to do with regimental displays, that they cannot influence Yanukovych and so on. Considering the fact that these representatives worked with different presidents - Khoroshkovskyy was active in Kuchma's times and in Yushchenko's times - they want to look like advocates of a strong state who are trying to save at least something in these crazy times of inevitable ruin. But they will not get the money. And they don't even need the money. They make plenty of it. But the lack of money for the country can bring the end of the competitors from Donetsk group closer. And RUE would really love to replace them…"

A split in the Party of Regions cannot be hidden anymore. Old school Donetsk oligarchs and businessmen have promptly reserved places in the election list that guarantee seats in the parliament for them and their families while RosUkrEnergo and Interpipe groups have not. They stake on Klitschko in hopes of him taking on more step in presidential ratings - from 2nd to 1st. And Viktor Yanukovych will be left to take the fall for everything.
