Vlasenko: Ministry of Foreign Affairs Statement Regarding the US Resolution is Medieval. VIDEO

The representatives of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs tried to block the US Senate's passing of the resolution on Ukraine calling for the release of Yulia Tymoshenko and implementation of visa sanctions to those responsible for her imprisonment.

The statement was made by Tymoshenko's lawyer Serhiy Vlasenko in Kharkov, the Comments report.

"The representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were pestering senators - I saw it personally. The representatives of the Party of Regions did the same thing," said Vlasenko.

He explained that the resolution was passed unanimously - all senators voted aye.

"To put the resolution aside the Party of Regions just needed one senator out of a hundred who just said that he had some questions and ask to postpone the voting. But they did not find one. And the Ministry's statement about a doubtful procedure is purely medieval," he said.

Vlasenko also noted that in his personal opinion the list of people subject to sanctions should include President Viktor Yanukovych, Attorney General Viktor Pshonka, his deputy Rinat Kuzmin, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, high ranking law enforcement officers, prosecutors, investigators, and judges related to convicting sentences.

Vlasenko did not specify when the sanctions can be implemented saying that the procedure is not clearly regulated. The list will be determined by the US State Department.
