Russia Understands that South Stream Has no Future: 'Bulgaria Acts the Same Way as Ukraine'

Bulgaria's position on South Stream proves that Russia would be better off to abandon the project, says the Russian State Duma Committee Chairman.

According to UNIAN, the head of Energy Committee Ivan Grachev stated that "my position was always different from the official one. I always though that this endeavor (South Stream) has no future. The main argument - the South Stream will stop at the countries that are not worse or better than Ukraine in terms of own money or interests."

According to him, the Bulgarian government's statements about possible abandonment of the project are a good example. "Bulgaria is acting exactly as Ukraine," he said. Grachev noted that it would be wise for Russia, Ukraine and Europe to agree on using the present Ukrainian Gas Transportation System.
