Leonid Derhach was killed on Feb. 1 on a combat mission in Avdiivka, the Donetsk region, while defending Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, Censor.NET reports.
Derhach was born on March 24, 1979. He is a former law enforcer, a law professor of the Fedkovych National University in Chernivtsi since 2005.
After the conflict in the east of Ukraine evolved, Derhach went to serve in the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) area as a member of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade. His call sign was 'Academic.' He had been wounded earlier, and recently has been training young fighters arriving in the ATO area on combat mission.
