Censor.NET reports citing the statement by the press office of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
"Our hero Lieutenant Colonel Dmytro Tryteikin died in Mechnikov hospital in Dnipro City. He passed away following a desperate month-long fight to live after seven surgeries he underwent to heal severe wound he received on the outskirts of Avdiivka. Together with his family members we were praying and hoping for his health improvement after each operation. We hoped and waited for his speedy recovery and early return to employment. The doctors did their best to save our colleague, but not everything in this life depends on them," the statement reads.
"We bid last farewell to the hero with great pain in our hearts. Rest in Peace!" the agency added.
The fighting in the vicinity of Avdiivka has been underway since late Saturday, Jan. 28. Three days into fighting, Ukrainian soldiers have managed to take enemy positions and improved their tactical set-up in the area. Unfortunately, casualties were reported among the military.
Militants' strikes left the government-controlled town of Avdiivka without electricity, water and heat. A state of emergency has been introduced in Avdiivka on Jan. 30.
