 "This is new skin," – Theater on Podil controversial facade presented to public. PHOTOS+VIDEO

Today, the historic center of Kyiv hosted the reopening ceremony of the new theater building situated on Andriivskyi Descent, which created considerable stir of the public.

A correspondent for Censor.NET reports from the scene.

The presentation of the renovated building facade was accompanied by ovations of from one part of the audience and booeing by the other one, led by Svoboda party member, Kyiv City Council member Ihor Miroshnychenko.

Project architect Oleh Drozdov noted that an active discussion of this issue was important as construction of other facilities on Podil passed unnoticed by the public. He also stressed that the building has been under construction for 15 years while only its facade was completed today. Drozdov also expressed belief that both the building and its facade fit well into Andriivskyi Descent while its style reflected modern trend.

Theatre on Podil Art Director Vitalii Malakhov said he wanted the building both fit and challenge Andriivskyi Descent. According to him, it was crucial that the building was modern. Malakhov also stressed that the theater was ready to perform and disabled-friendly.
