Ukraine's Minister of Interior Arsen Avakov promised tough reaction by police to provocations, anti-Ukrainian symbols and statements during May 8-9 memorial events.

Censor.NET reports citing the Interior Ministry press service.

According to the minister, the apologists of the Russkiy mir concept (the Russian World or Pax Russica) in Ukraine are speculating on the feelings of people and using their propaganda channels to circulate messages about the Bessmertny Polk (Immortal Regiment) memorial walk. This is done not to pay tribute to those who fought in World War II, not for historical memory, but for the sake of provoking internal conflicts in the Ukrainian society against the backdrop of Russia's ongoing aggression.

Avakov noted that this year, as always, different political forces will try to use May 9 in order to remind about themselves in any possible way.

"I know about the plans for such provocations in the capital and in a number of cities in the south-east of Ukraine. We know the names of the organizers and are aware of their plots ... In all demonstrations and marches scheduled for this day, National Police and National Guard units will react toughly to anti-Ukrainian symbols and statements," Avakov said.

"The Interior Ministry will not allow creating preconditions for internal destabilization through provocative symbols and actions. This is our responsibility to the Ukrainian people," the minister added.
