As reported by Censor.NET citing Ukrinform, Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni said delivering speech at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington during his official visit to the United States.
According to him, neither the U.S. nor the European Union should forget about Ukraine crisis.
The Italian prime minister also said that the U.S. and EU made the right decision when they imposed anti-Russian sanctions in response to Ukraine developments.
Gentiloni said that the sanctions against Russia impacted Italy and Germany harder than other countries after the Russian federation occupied Ukrainian Crimea and backed separatists in the Donbas. However, he believes that the U.S. and EU should demonstrate not weakness, but unity in their efforts against Russian aggression.
As reported, Italy blocked the initiative to extend existing sanctions against Russia for a year instead of six months and imposition of new sanctions for war crimes in Syria at the EU summit on Dec. 15.
