 Alasania becomes head of National Public Broadcasting Company

The Supervisory Board of National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine (UA:PBC) PJSC has elected Zurab Alasania as the company chairman.

Censor.NET reports citing Detektor Media news outlet.

Eight people were running for the post of UA:PBC Chairman of the Board including former company CEO Zurab Alasania, Current Chairman of UA:PBC Oleh Nalyvaiko, TV presenter and media expert Roman Vybranovskyi, producer of Sumy regional state-run TV channel Yurii Darahan, music and TV reviewer Oleksandr Zirin, former Vice-President of UA:PBC Oleksandr Zorka, UA:PBC electrical substation shop head Oleksandr Kovalenko, and producer Marek Serant.

Zurab Alasania and Oleh Nalyvaiko won the same number of votes in the first round of voting. Alasania pulled out a victory in the second round by winning votes of 10 members of the Supervisory Board. Seven members voted against him. Nalyvaiko won seven votes while 10 members cast votes against him.

Each of the candidates presented his development strategy for the National Public Broadcasting Company at a meeting on April 10.

The Supervisory Board consists of 17 members including nine community leaders from the sectors of health and physical education, creativity, journalism, protection of interests of children and youth, education and science, protection of people with special needs, local government, human rights, and national minorities' rights protection.

The remaining eight members represent parliamentary factions and groups.
