Censor.NET reports citing the National Police Department of Communications in the Kyiv region.
43-year-old resident of the village of Sukholuchia Serhii Vakulchyk not only protected his family but also managed to neutralize a robber gang from the Russian Federation. He was awarded by the head of the National Police in the Kyiv region Dmytro Tsenov and his deputy Andrii Niebytov.
On March 29, five young men armed with scraps, knives and a pistol broke into Serhii's house. The robbers began to torture his wife and demand money and valuables from the safe.
However, the homeowner was an experienced hunter. He shot one of the violators from his own registered hunting rifle. The robber died of a gunshot wound immediately. Other robbers fled.
Three suspects from Russian republic Dagestan were detained within several hours. The fourth robber has been put on a wanted list.
Police officers had not apprehended Serhii. Criminal proceedings had been opened under article 118 (use of excessive force in self-defense) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Recently, the proceedings have been closed in agreement with the regional prosecutor's office.
