Ukraine's Interior Minister Arsen Avakov wrote on Facebook, Censor.NET reports.
"The Highland Patrol Company was established within the National Guard. The detachments will operate from the base in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. Its soldiers will assist the law enforcement officers and protect public order in the mountain villages.
The servicemen are now preparing for drills at a training ground. Their first patrol mission in the Carpathian Mountains is to be held as early as this spring," he said.
According to the minister, the new company's prime function is to keep the people (the local residents and tourists) safe in the mountain woodlands.
"In addition, the aforementioned unit of the National Guard can be used, if necessary, to assist the relevant agencies and services in search operations and evacuation of people in case of emergencies," the official said.
