Censor.NET reports citing the local Dzerzhynsk newspaper.
The outburst that blocked three workers in a long face reportedly occurred at the 95th section of the Tsentralna mine.
Mine-rescue teams left for the scene.
"The mine rescue brigade members arrived at 1:30 p.m. The accident took place at about 1 p.m.," the statement reads.
A spokesperson for the Main Directorate of the State of Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Donetsk region told 112 Ukraine TV channel that the coal and gas outburst in Toretsk mine did took place.
The accident was later confirmed by Head of the Donetsk civil and military administration Pavlo Zhebrivskyi.
"Four workers were inside when coal and gas outburst occurred. Three of them managed to get out. One miner was trapped by the rubble," he said on air of 112 Ukraine TV channel.
"Unfortunately, I was just informed that one person was found with no traces of life. I have no additional information about him," Zhebrivskyi later added.
Miners' Independent Trade Union Head Mykhailo Volynets confirmed one miner dead.
"Unfortunately, this splendid spring day was gloomed by another tragedy at a mine... This time the coal and gas outburst took place in Tsentralna mine in the Donetsk region at 2 p.m. A mining face worker was killed. Mine rescuers are doing their best to retrieve his body," he wrote.
