 Moldovan court sends Judge Chaus on 15-day remand

On March 2, a Chisinau court ruled to arrest Ukrainian Judge Mykola Chaus for 15 days.

This was announced by head of Moldova's Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office Viorel Morar, Censor.NET reports.

"The decision has just been taken. The meeting started at 3:30 p.m. He was arrested as part of a proceeding on illegal border crossing. Hearing on the merits has not been scheduled yet. The probe is underway," Morar said.

Morar said Chaus will be put in a remand prison in Chisinau.

As previously reported, on March 1, Chaus was detained in Moldova. According to Moldova's law enforcement authorities, Chaus volantarily surrendered to police.

On Aug. 9, 2016, Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau exposed Chaus accepting a $150,000 bribe.

On Sep. 6, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine sanctioned criminal prosecution, detention and arrest of Chaus.

On Oct. 21, the Ukrainian Bureau of Interpol put Chaus on the international wanted list.
