 Two police officers wounded in grenade blast in Chernihiv, - Kniaziev. VIDEO

On Monday, Feb. 27, Chernihiv police caught a criminal who had committed an armed attack on a city pawnshop a few days before. During the operation, two police officers were wounded.

"A number of robberies marked this past week, with the armed attack on an employee of a pawnshop in Chernihiv among them. The incident took place on Feb. 24 at 8:05 p.m. An unknown man fired an assault rifle with a silencer in the air and at the cashier of the pawnshop. He took nothing and ran away. The cashier received a gunshot wound to the head and was hospitalized. Two dozen 5.45 mm cartridges were found at the scene. The attacker managed to escape. Today, criminal investigation operatives along with National Police special forces stormed the offender's apartment. During the operation, the criminal threw a grenade," Kniaziev said.

"Two police officers were wounded. One of them, a 38-year-old major of KORD (operative and sudden action corps) was badly wounded in the abdomen by a grenade fragment. He is being taken to hospital. The criminal was wounded as well," the National Police head added and posted a video of the pawnshop incident.

He said he would not publish another video shot by a camera beyond the cash window due to its disturbing and explicit character.
