 Poroshenko enacts NSDC decision to neutralize threats to Ukraine's energy sector

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has issued a decree to enact a National Security and Defense Council decision of Feb. 16, 2017 on urgent measures to neutralize threats to energy security of Ukraine and strengthen critical infrastructure protection.

The text of corresponding decree No. 37/2017 was published on the presidential website on Thursday night, Censor.NET reports.

According to the decision the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine among other things must:

- take all necessary measures to neutralize threats to the energy security of Ukraine;

- approve the procedure for the movement of goods to and form the area of anti-terrorist operation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions as well as the list of proscribed goods;

- work out and implement an action plan to strengthen the fight against the illegal movement of goods in the area of anti-terrorist operation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions;

- organize the repair of damaged transport infrastructure (bridges, railroad crossings, etc.) in the area of the anti-terrorist operation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions;

- take all necessary measures to diversify sources of supply of coal in Ukraine and create a reserve of steam coal;

- temporarily halt exports of anthracite coal form Ukraine until the energy sector crisis is overcome.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine are instructed to immediately take all necessary measures to ensure public order in the area of anti-terrorist operation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions; ensure proper protection of the gas and electricity supply infrastructure in the area of the anti-terrorist operation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and create proper security conditions for its smooth operation.

The decree shall come into force from the date of its publication.
