Mogherini believes US could lose global leadership role

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini says the U.S. could lose its global leadership role due to a lack of internal cohesion.

She said it after a trip to Washington in an interview with the Leading European Newspaper Alliance (LENA), published by German Welt, Censor.NET reports citing Gordon.

According to the diplomat, she has never seen the United States so polarized, divided and burdened with conflicts.

Mogherini says that in order to maintain the global leadership role, internal confidence and cohesion are necessary. She believes that the challenges the United States is faced with could become a destabilizing factor for the whole world.

Mogherini suggests that discrepancies between Brussels and Washington will increase in future.

During her visit to the United States, Mogherini said that Europe does not interfere in the policy of the United States and that the Europeans are smart enough to make their own political decisions.

Earlier, a group of Republican senators published a letter in which they called on the U.S. President Donald Trump to take a tougher stance on Russia.
