 European Film Academy calls on Russia to release Sentsov

The European Film Academy called on the Russian authorities to release the Ukrainian director Oleh Sentsov, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

This was announced by Chairman of the Academy Agnieszka Holland at the Berlinale Film Festival, Censor.NET reports citing DW.

She says Sentsov is a victim of political persecution.

Last year, the human rights organization Amnesty International, the German and the European Film Academy held a rally in support of Sentsov at the Berlinale Film Festival.

Russia sentenced Ukrainian director Oleh Sentsov for 20 years of imprisonment in a penal colony on charges of organizing terrorist groups in occupied Crimea.
