German's Reichel cancels press conference amid scandal over remarks on Donbas elections

German Ambassador to Ukraine Ernst Reichel has canceled the news conference scheduled to be held on Tuesday evening.

Censor.NET reports citing Yevropeiska Pravda quoting a source in the embassy.

The ambassador's press conference was supposed to precede the official reception on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the work of Germany's diplomatic mission in Ukraine.

"The reception will take place as planned, but the press conference won't," the embassy explained.

Earlier, Reichel said in an interview it was not necessarily that the elections in the Donbas will take place only when there will be no Russian troops or Ukrainian flag will be posted on each city administration.

As an example, the ambassador cited the last 1990 parliamentary elections in the German Democratic Republic, which took place in the presence of Soviet troops.

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry has summoned Reichel in connection with incident.
