This was announced by Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.
"After a number of investigative actions, we can talk about the expansion of the indictment against the leaders of this operation... All of them are accused of negligence which entailed very serious consequences involving the death of people. Though after examinations, the charges may be expanded, including by adding article 115 (murder)," Lutsenko said.
According to him, the examinations are not over yet.
Lutsenko said that the house near which the shoot-out occurred was robbed not only by robbers but also by law enforcers.
"We now have evidence that the house near which the skirmish occurred was robbed twice - once by robbers and then by the law enforcers," he said.
The prosecutor general added the investigation of the events during the arrest of the robbers on the outskirts of Kyiv is underway.
Five police officers were shot dead in a fire exchange between members of different police squads in the village of Kniazhychi Dec. 4.
Two of them were State Guard Service officers, two were police investigators, and one was a KORD special purpose unit serviceman.
Interior Ministry Adviser Anton Herashchenko wrote it was an accidental skirmish caused by a mistake that led to the deaths of five officers.
The tragedy in the village of Kniazhychi occurred during a special operation on apprehension of a dangerous group of criminals who committed robberies in the city of Kyiv and the Kyiv region. The three violators were later apprehended by police.
