Tillerson backs lethal aid to Ukraine: "I would support that"

U.S. secretary of state nominee Rex Tillerson supports providing lethal weapons to Ukraine should Russia proceed with aggressive actions in the Donbas.

He stated during the first confirmation hearings in the Senate, Censor.NET reports citing C-Span.

Asked whether he supported helping Ukraine with lethal arms in response to the continued aggressive actions by Russia, Tillerson said: "It is important that we should support the Ukrainians in all ways to protect themselves from any further expansion or aggression. I'm hopeful the cease-fires will hold. But in the absence of that, I think it's important for us to support them in their ability to defend themselves."
