"Chrystia Freeland becomes foreign minister in the new government of Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau. We are proud of you and support you!" he wrote.
Earlier, on Nov. 4, 2015, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau chose Freeland as Minister of International Trade.
Chrystia Freeland was born Feb. 8, 1968. She worked in a variety of editorial positions at the Financial Times, The Globe and Mail, and Thomson Reuters. Freeland started her journalism career as a stringer for the Financial Times, The Washington Post and The Economist while working in Ukraine.
She was elected Canadian MP in 2013. Freeland became one of Canada officials banned from entering Russia since March 2014.
