Chairman of the State Service of Geology and Mineral Resources of Ukraine Mykola Boiarkin announced it at a press conference, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.
"The governmental program-2020 is intended to fully satisfy our needs with the country's own energy. The plans are ambitious but very real. The fact that Ukraine has resumed its search for oil and gas on the Black Sea shelf indicates a titanic shift in Ukraine's exploration. According to our estimates, the gas reserves make at least 40 billion cubic meters in an area of 7,000 square meters on the north-western Black Sea shelf," Boiarkin said.
He stressed that Ukraine has enough resources to meet its gas needs and is capable of aidless production.
"40 billion cubic meters is the most modest figure, since only two surveyed sites of the mentioned area of 7,000 square meters contain about 35 billion cubic meters of gas. Six areas that are yet to be explored have large reserves as well," Boiarkin added.
