President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko commented on the tragedy in the village of Kniazhychi, Censor.NET reports citing president's Facebook.
"My condolences to the families of fallen police officers. The causes of this painful tragedy must be investigated and all those responsible must be punished,'' the president wrote.
Five police officers were shot dead in a fire exchange between members of different police squads in the village of Kniazhychi (26 km from Kyiv) last night.
It happened during a special operation on apprehension of a dangerous group of criminals who committed robberies in the city of Kyiv and Kyiv region.
Three violators were apprehended by the police later. Their firearms were seized.
