“Fight against smuggling at customs already yields dividends: Ukraine’s budget now receives funds once lining someone’s pockets,” - Hroisman

The fight against smuggling and restoration of order at the customs offices is already yielding dividends.

This was stated by Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroisman at a meeting with participants and medalists of the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Censor.NET reports citing the press office of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

"We entered the fighting against smuggling. The [customs] revenues slumped significantly in May as everyone thought that we would change our mind and quit fighting. But we received additional 2 billion hryvnia as early as in August. We also expect 2 billion hryvnia surplus this month," the PM explained.

According to Volodymyr Hroisman, the customs revenues increased solely due to the struggle against corruption in the agency.

"Ukraine's budget now receives funds once lining someone's pockets," the prime minister stressed.
